In December 2006, Rolando Blackman used basket ball clinic to lead campaign against corruption in Praia, the capital city of Santiago island of Cape Verde. In the same way, he used basket ball clinic in Dakar, capital city of Senegal to raise awareness on drug abuse and trafficking to mark the 2007 International Day on Drug Trafficking and Abuse (26th June).
The Senegal based UNODC Regional office covering the twenty three countries of west and central Africa except Nigeria chooses to use the good office of Rolando Blackman, a basket-ball legend (NBA and Dallas Mavericks) as a role model to teach kids and youths good practices in terms of education and sport.
The positive impact of this campaigns comforted the regional office of UNODC to use good office of Rolando Blackman to raise awareness against the trafficking and use of children during conflicts. He concluded in November 2007, three basket ball clinics in Abidjan, Bouake and Guiglo (Cote d'Ivoire) after addressing gathering of high level regional experts and government officials in line with the United Nations Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking( UN.GIFT).
Along those lines, the foundation would like to seek implementing more permanent Sports and Academics centers in several areas where such needs are prominent.
Those centers would provide the communities involved Education and Sport development as well as jobs and community services...
